6 Tips for Helping Reiki Kids Deal with Adult Skepticism

One challenge of teaching Reiki to children is preparing them to face skepticism or lack of support from adults. Skepticism is something all practitioners have to deal with, but children are particularly sensitive to the things the adults in their lives say to them.  My own children have faced this with other family members, and they felt judged and embarrassed.  As Reiki teachers, it's our responsibility to empower young practitioners to handle these situations with grace and confidence. Below you will find tips for teaching children how to manage skepticism and maintain their Reiki practice in the face of doubting adults.

1.  Teach the Power of Self-Belief:  Begin by instilling a strong sense of self-belief in your young Reiki students. Encourage them to trust their experiences and feelings, even if others doubt them. Explain that Reiki is a personal journey, and what feels right to them and what they believe is what matters most.

2.    Foster Open Communication:  Create an environment where children feel comfortable sharing their Reiki experiences and concerns. Encourage them to express themselves openly with their parents or guardians. Let them know that it's okay to discuss their Reiki practice.

3.    Encourage Patience and Understanding:  Teach your students the importance of patience and understanding when dealing with adults who may not fully comprehend Reiki. Explain that skepticism often comes from a lack of knowledge and exposure. Encourage them to be understanding and compassionate.

4.    Share Your Stories:  Share stories of how you have successfully responded to people who have shown skepticism.  Let them know how you felt before and after responding.  Tell them what inspires you to keep at it even when others may not believe in what you are doing.  Inspire your students with these real-life examples.

5.    Role-Playing Scenarios:  Engage in role-playing activities with your students. Create scenarios where adults express doubt or skepticism about Reiki. Encourage your students to respond confidently, explaining what Reiki means to them and how it has positively impacted their lives.

6.    Provide Information to Parents and Guardians:  Educate parents and guardians about Reiki and its benefits. Provide resources and information to help them understand and support their child's practice. A supportive family environment can make a significant difference.

Teaching children how to handle skepticism is an essential aspect of their Reiki education. By instilling self-belief, fostering open communication, encouraging patience and understanding, sharing your stories, role-play scenarios, and providing information to parents and guardians, we give Reiki Kids the tools they need to navigate the world of skepticism with confidence and resilience. We can empower them to share the healing power of Reiki, regardless of the doubts of others.
