When we go through self-Reiki without being fully present, we can miss the deeper healing that comes from true, loving connection with ourselves. Practicing mindfulness during Reiki helps us slow down, listen, and receive. It shifts self-Reiki from something we “do” to something we fully experience.
Mindfulness invites us to pay attention to how we feel, where the energy flows, and what thoughts or emotions are present. When we are mindful, we notice subtle shifts. We release more easily. We begin to understand ourselves in a deeper way and we start to feel supported, not just by the Reiki energy, but by our own loving awareness.
Self-Reiki with mindfulness is a sacred time to return to yourself, reset your nervous system, and practice self-love.
How to Practice a Mindful Self-Reiki Session
You don’t need anything fancy. Just a few quiet moments, your hands, and a willingness to be present.
Prepare Your Space and Set Your Intention
Find a quiet place where you can sit or lie down comfortably. Close your eyes. Take three deep breaths. Say to yourself, “I am open to receive healing. I choose to be present with love and curiosity.”Activate Reiki
Place your hands together in Gassho. Invite the Reiki energy to flow. If you’ve been attuned, draw your symbols mentally or aloud. If not, simply call on healing energy with the intention to support your highest good.Begin at the Crown
Place your hands gently at the top of your head. Keep your attention focused on the sensation of your hands, your breath, and the energy beneath them. If thoughts come up, notice them without judgment and return your focus to your breath and hands.Move Through the Hand Positions Slowly
Move to the traditional positions; eyes, throat, heart, solar plexus, abdomen, hips, knees, and feet, spending a few minutes at each.
At every position, pause and notice:What do I feel here?
What emotions or thoughts are present?
Is there any tension or sensation in this area?
You don’t need to fix anything, just become aware and let Reiki flow.
Stay Aware of the Breath
Let your breath guide you. Keep it soft and natural. If your mind wanders, gently bring it back to the rise and fall of your breath and the warmth of your hands.Close with Gratitude
When you’re ready to end the session, bring your hands back to your heart. Say thank you to yourself, to the Reiki energy, and to this moment. Take another deep breath and open your eyes slowly.
This practice doesn’t have to be long. Even 10 mindful minutes can make a real difference. The more often you show up with presence, the easier it becomes to carry that peaceful awareness into the rest of your life. You deserve this time. You are worth showing up for.
