Why Reiki May Not Be Working for You (Yet)

Have you ever wondered why Reiki isn’t bringing the deep healing you hoped for?

Reiki is a healing method that works with your energy field to bring balance, peace, and wellbeing. Many people feel better after just one session, but for others, the results may not feel as strong, or the benefits may fade quickly. If that’s been your experience, don’t give up on Reiki. There are several reasons this might happen, and there are things you can do to get the most out of your sessions.

Healing Is a Process

It’s important to remember that healing is a journey, not an instant fix. Reiki supports natural healing, which can take time, especially if the body, mind, or spirit has been under stress for a long time. Even if you don’t feel much during or right after the session, your energy is still shifting and working to create balance.

In my practice, I’ve seen clients experience enormous relief after several sessions, even when the benefits of the first session felt subtle. It’s like layers of dis-ease are being gently healed and released. Sometimes the energy is clearing what you can’t yet see or feel.

Emotional Resistance or Energy Blocks

Sometimes, there are subconscious blocks or emotional resistance to healing. This doesn’t mean anything is wrong with you. It’s simply part of being human. If you’ve been hurt, stressed, or traumatized, your system might hold on to protective patterns that take time to shift.

Being open to receive is a big part of Reiki. Try to relax during your session, release expectations, and simply allow the energy to flow. Trust that your body and spirit know what to do with it.

Not Enough Support Between Sessions

Reiki works best when paired with supportive habits. If you return right back to a high-stress lifestyle, negative self-talk, or unhealthy patterns after your session, it can be hard to maintain the balance you felt.

Here are a few ways to support your healing between sessions:

  • Hydrate – Water helps flush out energy that’s been released.

  • Rest – Listen to your body and give it time to integrate the healing.

  • Journal – Write down what you’re feeling or noticing after and between your sessions.

  • Practice Self-Care – Physical movement, nourishing food, prayer, meditation, and breathwork can all support the energy work you’re receiving.

Skipping Follow-Up Sessions

Some conditions or emotional patterns have developed over years. One Reiki session can be helpful, but just like with massage, physical therapy, or counseling, one visit isn’t always enough.

If you want lasting change, commit to a few regular sessions, especially when starting out. This gives your system time to reset and your energy field time to stabilize. You might start weekly, then taper off to monthly for maintenance.

Tips for Getting the Most Out of Reiki

  • Set a Clear Intention before your session. It doesn’t have to be perfect. Just decide what you want to receive help with.

  • Be Consistent with sessions. Healing is cumulative. The more support you give your energy system, the stronger the effects become.

  • Stay Open to the process, even if the results aren’t what you expected. Reiki always works for your highest good.

  • Talk to Your Practitioner if you’re unsure what’s happening. We’re here to support you.

Reiki isn’t a magic cure, but it is a beautiful, powerful tool to help you heal, find balance, and return to your true self. If it hasn’t worked the way you hoped so far, give it time, stay consistent, and support yourself along the way.
